Trim Your Wick
I used to know nothing, nada, zippo about candles, let alone about candle
Making. I was interested in eco-friendly designs. Research came along while trying to develop an exceptional candle. It became a science experiment. What wax to use? Then, which soy wax to purchase? Wicks, jars, vessels, scents, wax melters, and the list goes on. Next, after hand-pouring a few, I learned from the mistakes I made how to fix them to come up with a winner.
What an agonizing but thrilling ride this has been. I wound up pitching
24 candles. I thought there was something wrong with them as they had a marbleized top. After research, I discovered that look was the way to tell I used natural soy. Who knew?
I didn't even know the basics.
Recently, I had coffee with a friend.
I asked her, "Do you trim your wick each time you burn a
candle?" She had no idea. So here are some basics. Maybe you know, maybe you don't.
Trim the wick by about ¼ inch before each burn. You can use a wick trimmer
or scissors. This prevents soot buildup, an uneven burn, and a larger flame. You
will add more burn time to enjoying your candle. In addition, try to stay away
from drafts, be careful with kids and pets, and never leave without extinguishing
your candle.
